Three quick ones with Tomas Ivarsson at Swedish Wood Technology Forum

Swedish Wood Technology Forum brings together stakeholders from across the wood industry with a focus on technical development, knowledge and skills supply. Ahead of Wood Products & Technology 2026, we meet their Secretary, Tomas Ivarsson, who shares his perspective on the industry’s current challenges, the need for collaboration, and how they are working to strengthen the future of the wood industry.

Which issue is most critical for the development of the wood industry right now?

– We are currently living in a highly turbulent time and sincerely hope that the situation stabilises as soon as possible. Global events are having a major impact on the industry, not least in terms of demand for wood products, where pricing levels are not satisfactory. The weak construction market domestically, which has been ongoing for a long time, is also negatively affected by the global situation.

Where do you see the greatest need for collaboration in the industry today?

– There are many areas where active collaboration is required, such as sustainability efforts, increased construction, work environment, digitalisation and efficient use of raw materials. We are strong in many ways, but what is important is to make the industry visible and show that these are issues we are addressing together.

What do you want visitors to take away from meeting you at Wood Products & Technology?

– At Swedish Wood Technology Forum, we prioritise several key areas, particularly the current and future skills supply of the wood industry. We hope that our products, ranging from web-based film material to other course literature, will generate interest. We continuously aim to strengthen member value and would very much like to see more people from the industry become members, especially younger professionals.
