Oakbot by Epur: Agile robotics for wood construction.
Epur improves the productivity of building craftsmen with the OAKBOT: the world’s first portable CNC milling machine for timber framing and wood construction.
The idea came up during construction work : how to reproduce perfectly identical pieces of wood in series, while gaining in productivity, precision and safety?
This is how two carpenters Pierre Giusti and Ilias Zinsstag gave a shape to their idea and created the start-up Epur, based in rural area in the Pyrenees (France).
Three years of R&D and a patent filing later, a first pre-series of ten units was marketed at the end of 2018 and 2019. For now the company has seven employees.
The Oakbot, is Innovative, Precise and Reliable. Its particularity is to combine digital and mobility thanks to its associated lifting cart.
The craftsman works safely because the OAKBOT works on its own. Its high productivity gives added value back in the hands of craftsmen and restores framework milling within the activity of companies.
The OAKBOT allows you to carry out directly on the site or in the workshop, a large set of joints are available (tenons, mortises, dovetails …), thanks to a portable device, which can reproduce identical machining, in all situations and at low cost.
The technical features are based on:
– A portable milling machine with 3 digital axes (X-Y-Z).
– High precision transmission by ball screw.
– NEMA 23 precision axis motors with integrated encoders.
– Roller guides lubricated for life.
– A secure control circuit and emergency stop button.
– An industrial air-cooled spindle motor.
The remote control (HMI) has been designed to be very intuitive, easily within the reach of anyone who knows how to use a smartphone. Getting started is quick without any specific training.
The company is resolutely facing towards innovation and has already won numerous prizes in construction innovation and has recently been chosen to present the OAKBOT at the ”Made in France” exhibition at the Élysée (french Presidency). The aim of the R&D center and the resulting versions of the OAKBOT is to bring professional portable tools into the digital world.
